Ingredients

Bourbon

This recipe is built around Bourbon, and we don’t recommend changing it for another whiskey. The sweetness that bourbon delivers plays an important role in the cocktail.

45 ml

Peach Liqueur

Peach is the main flavoring component, and we recommend using a liqueur, because it also adds sweetness. If you choose to use another, less sweet peach flavored spirit, like peach schnapps, you might need to adjust the amount of orgeat.

30 ml

Peach Bitters

Fee Brothers Peach Bitters in central for this cocktail, because it has both peach and almond flavors which serve to homogenize the overall flavor profile of the cocktail.

3 dashes

Orgeat

As with all other syrups, nothing beats a homemade Orgeat. Making Orgeat does take a bit more effort than most other syrups, and there are some decent store bought alternatives.

15 ml

Black Tea

The best choice here is Almond Aromatized Black Tea. If you cannot find this, a normal black tea will work as an alternative.

60 ml

Lemon Juice

Freshly squeezed.

History

The Peach Bourbon Iced Tea is a World of Mixology original, and therefore the cocktail doesn’t have a storied past but instead draws inspiration from the rich traditions of iced tea, while trying to incorporate some of the principles from modern mixology. Iced tea has a long history, with its origins tracing all the way back to as early as 1823 when Marguerite Countess of Blessington wrote about sipping iced tea in Naples. The oldest printed recipes for iced tea date back to the 1870s. Iced tea started appearing in the United States during the 1860s and became relatively widespread by the 1870s, with recipes in print and offerings on hotel menus and railroad stations. The Long Island Iced Tea, created in the 1970s, is a classic iced tea-inspired cocktail. It’s known for its potent mix of spirits—vodka, rum, tequila, gin, and triple sec, and doesn’t actually contain any tea, but just tries to mimic the appearance and color with a splash of cola. This iconic drink has become a staple in bars worldwide, more so for its potency than its flavor. Our Peach Bourbon Iced Tea pays homage to the traditions of actual Iced Tea, offering a fresh and sophisticated twist. By blending peach liqueur, bourbon, almond black tea, and orgeat, this cocktail brings new depth and complexity to the iced tea family, making it a more authentic and refined alternative to the classic Long Island Iced Tea.

Flavor profile

The Peach Bourbon Iced Tea is a cocktail that showcases the great flavor paring of peach and almond. The peach liqueur and Fee Brothers Peach Bitters introduce a fruitiness, with the bitters adding a nuanced almond undertone that complements and enhances the overall profile. This dual role of the bitters enriches the drink, creating layers of flavor that are both refreshing and complex. Almond black tea works as the lengthener of the drink, which makes this into a long drink, but it also serves to infuse the cocktail with a fragrant almond aroma and a slight bitterness that adds depth and balances the sweetness of the peach. This subtle bitterness enhances the drink’s complexity, making it more than just a refreshing way to quench your thirst. The orgeat syrup contributes a rich nuttiness, amplifying the almond theme while adding a smooth, sweet texture to the drink. This nuttiness melds beautifully with the other ingredients, ensuring a harmonious flavor blend. The bourbon adds a layer of spice and warmth, providing a robust foundation to build the rest of the flavors upon. Together, these elements create a delightful combination of flavors where peach and almond shine, offering a unique and delicious alternative to the classic Long Island Iced Tea.
